New Control Techniques for Those Pesky Moles!

By Mark Dotson For many years there was a one size fits all kind of approach to mole control. The scissor or Victor Out-of-Site trap was the king of the hill for catching moles. Recently there have been some new innovations in the control of moles. A recent addition to the trap family is the No-Mole product. The No-Mole is a totally different design with a type of jaws that form the shape of an L. A unique trigger mechanism in the shape of an oval with a flat side on it fits between two long spring rods. When this trap is placed in the tunnel, the mole pushes the trigger mechanism and is captured in the trap. The beauty of this trap is that it sits entirely underground and out of the reach of children and pets. The traps are very inexpensive and lightweight and can be set without the use of any tools. With this trap being totally underground, you won’t have your lawn care guys screaming anymore after running over a scissor trap and damaging their expensive lawn mowers! Catching moles can be a bit tricky. The trick to catching them is to place the traps in “live” tunnels. In other words, place them in well traveled runs. Tamp down the tunnels by walking on them and see which ones re-appear. These are the tunnels to set your traps inside of. Often where the moles come out of the woods or along a fence line are excellent locations to trap. Mark Dotson, Wildlife Control Expert and veteran mole control professional.
